Dearest Bus 6 Family,
This past week we spent shabbos in the old city of Akko. We welcomed the Shabbos in the Tunisian Synegogue whose art and mosaics were breathtaking and inspiring. Sharing in their prayer service was both very uplifting and an incredible window into some of the different cultures of Judaism in the land of Israel. Following services we returned to our hotel and shared a wonderful shabbos dinner with one another. On Sarurday afternoon we went on a walking tour of Akko. In exploring the old city of Akko we saw the royal prison and learned the true origin and power of the national anthem of Israel, Hatikva, and how it was used long before the establishment of the state. We saw where holy sages like Nachmonidies and Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzato (Ramchal) lives and worshiped. Upon returning to the hotel we shared in songs together on the roof while watching the sun set. Havdalah was recited together with a second TJJ Bus who were staying in the hotel with us.
On Sunday we left Akko and traveled to the holy city of Tzefat. Here we were introduced to the Torah topic of Kabbalah and we explored how Kabbalah is interpreted through an artist and his art gallery. Later we toured the Tzefat candle factory, several holy sites and even found some time for lunch and some shopping!
Our day concluded with a long drive from Tzefat to the base of the Masada Cliffs where we are anxious to explore the top of Masada tomorrow!
Best,
Chaim
