Dear NCSY TJJ NJ Bus 6 Family,
We hope your Shabbat was as great as ours!
We celebrated shabbat this past week in Maayan Charod where we enjoyed Kabbalat Shabbat and several educational sessions with the Advisors; topics included “How to deal with Struggle” and “If I were God”. We also enjoyed an uplifting “Ebbing” where we sang together as shabbat slowly faded away. Our whole group then escorted Shabbat out with a powerful Havdalah.
This morning, Sunday, we packed our bags and bid Maayan Charod farewell as we began to move south once again. We made a stop to cool off with a hike through the Kibbutzim river, one of the channels into the Jordan river from the Golan.
We then crossed the State of Israel and explored the Mediterranean Sea searching for the snail that supplies the royal color of light blue that is used by many on their Tzitzit and Tallitot.
Once we hit the road again we were tiiiiired! Many bus naps were had (sweet dreams!). We finished our drive for the day at Chan Hashayarot, a bedouin village where we would be spending the night in tents!
In Chan Hashayarot we had the chance to learn all about the bedouin people and experience how they live. We had a cultural dinner and heard from Ibrahim, one of the bedouins, about making tea! Sunday evening was also the ideal time and place to experience Jewish Meditation. Ari Zucker led us in several exercises to help us clear our minds and concentrate. Add on top of the exercises the still quiet darkness of the Negev Desert and it was truly an impactful experience!
Make sure to remember that the free weekend is rapidly approaching and every TJJer should confirm their plans and make sure that all arrangements are in order!
Best,
Rabbi Shmulie Greene
