Dear NCSY NJ TJJ Bus 6 Family,
On Monday we boarded we were privileged to visit Chevron. We learned about the city’s history dating back thousands of years. We met Tzippora whose family has been in Hebron for years. We also met Rabbi Yishai Fleischer who taught us about why the Jewish community of Hebron stays despite the challenges, and what we can do to help.
We continued to Maarat HaMachpela, the Tomb of our forefathers and foremothers, and has the opportunity to connect to Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob and Leah.
Our day continued at Mount Hertzl the Israeli Military cemetery. We heard stories of fallen Israeli soldiers and Jewish heroes, and then a few personal stories from our staff. We concluded with a story from our staff member’s brother, Menachem Samel, who told us what it was like to fight in Gaza, and about the friends that he lost.
We ended the night observing Tisha B’Av -the 9th of Av, a fast day mourning the loss of our Temple in Jerusalem, and countless other Jewish tragedies.
May we all be comforted amongst all mourners of Zion and Jerusalem speedily in our days!
Rabbi Shmulie Greene
