The Anne Samson Jerusalem Journey
Day 21 – Blind Museum, Bullet Factory, Independence Hall and Save A Child’s Heart

Dear NCSY NJ TJJ Bus 6 Family,

This morning we traveled to Holon’s Children’s Museum to visit their Dialogue in the Darkness exhibit. Our group experienced life in complete darkness such as going to the market or navigating a kitchen. We gained a new appreciation for our sense of sight and even got to buy some snacks at a blind café!

We then boarded the bus and headed to Rechovot to tour the Bullet Factory hidden underneath a kibbutz.  We now realize, even more, how lucky we are to have Jewish people making Jewish products to protect the Jewish homeland.

Without missing a beat, we visited Independence Hall in Tel Aviv, and saw the room in which the Jewish people declared independence and the State of Israel was born. We heard a recording of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion’s passionate speech and got a chance to relive that momentous occasion.

From there we visited and got inspired by the Save a Child’s Heart humanitarian organization with a mission to improve the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children from developing countries who suffer from heart disease, and who cannot get adequate medical care in their home countries. It also works to create centers of pediatric cardiac competence in these countries, so these children can be treated at home.  We spent time playing with the children that just underwent heart surgery or were slated to in the very near future.

Tonight we get ready for Yom NCSY taking place tomorrow!
