Dear Bus 6 Family,
We had an early start today so we could arrive at the City of David before the crowds. The Chizkiyahu Aqueduct proved to be a perfect temperature to wake everyone up! We learned how the ancient City of David stored and protected their water supply during times of siege. Walking through the Aqueduct we were able to imagine what a large construction effort it must have been to build such a massive tunnel and what it must have felt like to be forced to use it as the sole source of water in times of peril.
Following the aqueduct we went into a second tunnel system which served as the City of David’s sewer and later in history was utilized to help resist the Romn rule.
On the top of the city of David we heard from one of our advisors, Shalom Rosenbaum, as he described how the Temple Mount in its current form was built as well as many details about the ebb and flow in the life of King David.
From the city of David we walked to the Old City of Jerusalem where we had lunch in the Jewish Quarter. There, we spent some free time enjoying the shawarma, pizza, and ice cream while taking in the people and culture and the heart of Israel. After lunch we proceeded to tour the cardo, a roman era street that runs through the heart of the old city. We were surprised to see that it had been newly decorated with photographic art from around Israel and we enjoyed discussing the different pictures.
We are looking forward to spending an amazing shabbat together in the the Jerusalem neighborhood of Bayit VeGan.
Best,
Chaim
